Babaji is the great avatar written about by Paramahansa Yogananda in his best selling book "Autobiography of a Yogi" He is also the guru (Guru means teacher, usually with a spiritual significance) of Neem Karoli Baba who in turn was the teacher of Ram Dass who wrote the book "Be Here Now."
Uttaranchal is the mysterious region in the Himalayas where the immortal masters live deep in the jungle forests and mountain caves. This region is where many of the great saints and renunciates developed the sacred science of Yoga, and achieved self realization
Chilianaula is where the god Hanuman is said to lifted the mountain up and today a Babaji Temple rests on the approximate site.
Dunagiri is the holy peak where Sri Lahri Mahasaya, the great master of Kriya Yoga and guru to Paramahansa Yogananda was intiated into Kriya by Mahavatar Babaji at the Divine Mother Temple.
Haidakhan is the "most sacred spot on earth" according to Babaji. Here the sacred Mount Kailash, abode of the gods, dominates the valley. It was in a cave below Mount Kailash that has been the home to Babaji for hundreds of years. At its peak, Babaji sat for 45 days in meditation neither eating or drinking. The Trip
We will visit all of the above, and more.
After arriving in Delhi and resting up, you will visit the wonderful markets in Delhi that sell all manner of exotic and inexpensive items from silk fabrics, bronzes, gold, silver, incense and artifacts. We then take the train, jeep and porters from Delhi to the mountain town of Raniket and to Chilianaula. We will pass the remote ashram of Neem Keroli Baba, and time permitting, stop briefly there.
The Uttaranchal region. It is here that for over 5000 years and probably twice that, that the famous Holy Men of India have lived. Deep in the jungles and high peaks of this region, the sacred concepts of mans relationship to the cosmos have been pondered, investigated and written about. Many of the greatest miracle men of India, gurus, fakirs, swamis etc. have resided here. The region is filled with sacred sites, temples that are older than history itself, and caves and retreats.
From this region mystic thought emanated and gave rise to many of the mystery schools of the Middle East, including Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia and the Far East. Judaism and Christianity owe many of their early concepts to Indian Vedic teachings. As does Buddhism, Chinese and Japanese martial arts originated in India, so did yoga, Tai Chi and so on.
Chilianaula is where the ceremony of Navarartri is held in the Fall and is presided over by Sri Muniraji who Babaji said is the incarnation of Datatreya. This is a powerful 9 day ceremony devoted to the Divine presence and it devotes three days on each of three aspects of the Divine, invoking respectively, the power of personal transformation, wisdom and prosperity. The energy builds increasingly each day around the Yagna, that is the sacred fire offering, as instituted by Babaji.
